Egypt is probably a country with one of the richest cultures. The birthplace of the famous pyramids and sphinxes is now one of the tourist centers, attracting a huge number of visitors from around the world every year. The official name of Egypt is the Arab Republic of Egypt.
Where is Egypt, what are the geographical features of its position? Egypt is located in northeastern Africa, but a part of its territory is in the Sinai Peninsula, so we can say that it occupies two continents at once - Africa and Asia.
Egypt is washed by two seas - the Mediterranean and Red. On the territory of Egypt is the Suez Canal - the shortest sea route connecting the Indian Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea.
In the west, the country borders with Libya, in the south - with Sudan, in the east - with the Gaza Strip and Israel. By sea, the country has common borders with Saudi Arabia and Jordan. Egypt covers an area of about a million square kilometers, which is four times the area of Great Britain.
In Egypt, the division into Upper and Lower Egypt is still preserved.Such regions as Cairo, Alexandria, Port Said belong to lower Egypt, Luxor, Aswan and Kena belong to Upper Egypt.
Most of the territory of Egypt is a desert with occasionally meeting oases, the rest of it falls on the Nile Valley. About the Nile is worth mentioning separately. The Nile is a pledge of fertility of the Egyptian lands, it is the second largest river in the world after the Amazon. It is in the Nile Valley that all of Egypt’s agriculture is concentrated and 99% of the population lives.
